Study a degree, a master's or a course in Spain — and, if you're in higher education, work up to 30 hours a week while you study. When you graduate, you can switch to a work or residence permit without leaving Spain.

How it works, step by step
From your country — or from Spain for higher education
Most students apply for the visa at the Spanish consulate, at least 2 months before the course begins. If you're going to do higher education and you're already in Spain legally, you can apply from Spain — but at least 2 months before your current stay ends. As a visa-free visitor with 90 days, that means filing in roughly your first 30 days.

Student Visa: common questions
Can I work on a student visa in Spain?
Yes. Higher-education students can work, as employees or self-employed, up to 30 hours a week without any extra permit. The work must be in the region where the stay was granted.
How much money do I need?
100% of IPREM: €600 per month for the length of your stay, unless your accommodation is paid in advance. Add €450/month for the first family member and €300/month for each additional one.
Can I apply for a student visa from Spain?
Only for higher education (and medical specialty training), if you're in Spain legally, and at least 2 months before your current legal stay expires.
Does student time count toward Spanish citizenship?
No. Student status is a 'stay', not residence, so it doesn't count toward nationality. It does count at 50% toward long-term residence once you hold a residence permit.
What happens after I graduate?
You can switch to a work, self-employment or other residence permit from Spain, filing in the 2 months before or 3 months after your studies end. Graduates with a bachelor's or higher can also get a residence permit to look for work or start a business.
